Please note that School Committee policy states that when Labor Day occurs prior to September 5th, the start date for students will be the Tuesday after Labor Day; when Labor Day occurs on September 5th or later, the start date for students will be the Wednesday before Labor Day. Labor Day falls on September 3, 2018, thus, the first day of school for students as Tuesday, September 4, 2018. This follows the same pattern as the current year.
Days of low attendance on which there will be no school are Rosh Hashanah (Monday, September 10) and Yom Kippur (Wednesday, September 19). Good Friday is Friday, April 19, which falls during school vacation week in 2019 so does not impact calendar. There will be no school on Monday, November 12, in observance of Veterans Day.
The 2018-19 calendar includes professional development days on Friday, January 18, 2018, the Friday preceding MLK weekend, and Friday, March 8, 2018.
