Superintendent’s Update
The following message was sent from the Superintendent to students and families via Infinite Campus and email on January 31, 2021:
Dear Students and Families,
I hope this communication finds your family healthy and safe. I am grateful to all of you as we have made it to the month of February, and it looks as if the COVID-19 infection rates in Massachusetts are remaining steady and even trending down — certainly welcome news! I would like to express great appreciation to our school nurses led by Jamy Gaynor or Director of Health Services, who have done an outstanding job rolling out weekly testing for all of our students and employees these past two weeks. Our school nurses also helped to roll out vaccines across the town this past weekend. These trends and actions make me hopeful.
We have the capacity to conduct many more tests each week and I ask that as many families as possible participate weekly in free testing at the Field School or the High School. Greater participation in testing, along with falling numbers of cases in Weston and across the state, will help us move toward our goals to keep our schools open and bring in students for more hours. We will continue to work with the Board of Health and teachers to make safe decisions around increasing student hours for in-person learning.
Many in the Weston School Community have been generous in providing food cards for families that might need food assistance during this time. Thank you for donating. If your family would benefit from food assistance, please fill out the following confidential form.
As many of you know, a winter storm is forecast to arrive tomorrow afternoon and possibly extend into Tuesday. Depending on the severity of the storm, we may need to close school buildings and have a remote learning day on Tuesday. For the remainder of this year, we will be having remote learning days when we have weather related school closings. Why not a traditional snow day? We now have the capability to teach remotely and we are currently scheduled to have our last day of school on Friday June 18, 2021. I believe that keeping that as our last day is important and February vacation is just two weeks away!
Thank you again for your support and flexibility.
Best,
Dr. Midge Connolly
