3-5 Strategic Planning Update: Portrait of a Learner Survey and New Mission, Vision, Core Values

Dear Weston School Community,

As part of our ongoing strategic planning work, Weston Public Schools is developing a Portrait of a Learner (POL)—a shared vision that identifies the essential skills and qualities every WPS graduate should embody. This Portrait will serve as a guide for how we prepare our students K-12 to excel in college, their career, and life beyond Weston.

To ensure this vision reflects the values and aspirations of our entire community, we invite students, families, staff, and residents to participate in a brief survey, which can be accessed here or via the included QR code. The survey will remain open through Sunday, November 30. Your feedback will help us define the characteristics that best represent what it means to be a Weston graduate.

In addition, I am pleased to share that I will be presenting the initial drafts of the district’s new mission, vision, and core values during the November 17 School Committee meeting. The goal at this time is not to present a final product, but to invite reflection and feedback from the School Committee and the broader Weston community. Your input will play a vital role in shaping the final versions.

To keep the feedback on these two distinct, yet equally important, pieces of the strategic planning process separate, all feedback on the mission, vision, and core values will be collected via emails sent to Derrek Joyce at joyced@weston.org. Similar to the survey, we will be accepting feedback through Sunday, November 30.

We encourage all members of the Weston community to complete the POL survey and, if possible, watch the November 17 meeting to learn more and share your perspectives. Together, we can ensure that Weston Public Schools continues to provide an exceptional education grounded in shared purpose and community values.

Thank you for your engagement and partnership in this important work.

Sincerely,

Dr. Karen Zaleski

Superintendent
