Country School PTO Announcements for the week of May 9 – May 13, 2022

1. Country School Spring Concerts

Thursday, May 12th, Country School Gym

8:45 am-9:30 am: 2nd & 3rd Grade, Orchestra, Chorus

10:15 am-10:45 am:  Preschool-1st Grade

A few reminders since for many, this will be their first CS concert…

  • Please park in a parking spot.  Families can use the Country School lot, the pool parking lot, and the spillover lot at Field School.  Please do NOT park in the front traffic circle.

  • CS will begin allowing families into the building at 8:30.  This will help us ensure all of our students have a safe arrival before allowing visitors into the building.

  • CS asks that all families and their guests enter through the gym doors for the concert. You can access these doors by walking down the Fire Lane and turning right when you get to the blacktop.

  • Please do not ask for siblings to be dismissed from class to watch their older/younger sibling.

  • If you are staying for both shows, families can enjoy fresh air and mingling on the blacktop just outside the gym.

  • If you or a member of your family needs special assistance with getting to the gym or seating, please let Mrs. Maguire know.  We are happy to accommodate all!

  • If you are unable to make the performance, Weston Media will be here to film the concert and will air it at a later date.

  • While tempting, please do not go to your child’s classroom before or after the performance.

We look forward to seeing you all very soon!

2. Lost and Found

The lost and found is overflowing again! Items will be on display outside after each concert by gym doors near the blacktop/CS playground. Families are encouraged to browse and retrieve lost items after the concerts. Unclaimed items will be donated.

3. Wildcat CARES Scavenger Hunt!

Country, Woodland, and Field School PTO invite you to join us for the First Annual Wildcat C.A.R.E.S Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, May 14th, from 3:30pm-5pm. This event is family-friendly and free! Come with your parents, caregivers, and siblings for an exciting afternoon of fun! Scavenger Hunt will begin at the Country School Playground at 3:30pm. Please arrive on time to hear instructions and receive your task lists!

So that we have an accurate count for handouts, please fill out the sign-up genius if you plan to join us! This event does not have a rain date; if the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will plan to cancel and message families via the Signup Genius and social media.

5. K-12 Art Show

Tuesday, May 17th, 5-7pm in the High School Science Wing

The K-12 Art Show is back after a two-year hiatus! There will be an opening reception on Tuesday, May 17 from 5-7pm in the Weston High School Science Wing. We have been asked to reach out to parents to volunteer their time to hang and display artwork. We also are looking for volunteers who would be willing to set up the reception and provide snacks and water. We hope parents across all grades will be willing to help out to make this show an extraordinary success and celebration of the artistic achievements of all of our children!

Here is the link for volunteers to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f45adaa2ea2fa7-k12

Thank you so much for your willingness to help out!

6. My School Bucks

WPS is transitioning away from Webtrac to MySchoolBucks for school lunches and for many other fees and transactions. This transition will streamline fees, fundraising, and other transactions on one platform. Visit HERE for more info if you do not yet have an account or if you need a refresher.

7. PTO Hope & Comfort Drive

Please join the Weston PTO in supporting its annual Hope & Comfort drive which will run from Monday, March 2 through Friday, March 13.  Hope & Comfort is a local non-profit started by a Weston family that requests new and unexpired personal hygiene products to support and improve the health, self-esteem, and hygiene education of youth in need across Greater Boston.  The most needed items are deodorant, toothpaste, sulfate-free shampoo, bars of soap, and menstrual products.  Collection bins will be located in the lobby of each school or items can be delivered directly to Hope & Comfort by CLICKING HERE to purchase through an Amazon Wishlist.  Contact Theresa Nibi (theresanibi@gmail.com) or Stacy Simon Gilman (Stacysimon21@gmail.com) with any questions.  Please generously support this worthy cause!

9. K-12 Social Studies and History External Review Forum

Monday, May 9th at 8:30am, in the Field School Cafe and on Zoom

The purpose of the external review is to collect data and respond to questions and priorities from the program-review “charge” set forth by the School Committee. The respective “charges” for our K-12 Social Studies and History Department and Guidance and Counseling Department each stem from their 2019-22 “self-study” internal reviews. Each external review committee will go on to review materials, observe teaching and learning, as well as hear from faculty, administrators, families and community members.

If you would like to submit questions or comments about the review, please contact K-5 Curriculum Specialist Susan Erickson, ericksons@weston.org

Please note the new Zoom link: https://westonorg.zoom.us/s/81252100120

10. Town Meeting

Important Reminder:  WESTON TOWN MEETING – Monday May 9th at 7pm at Weston High School Auditorium and Gymnasium!

The Weston School Committee urges all parents to attend the Town Meeting to participate in the proposed School Budget approval process.  Items at Town Meeting are decided by residents attending the meeting.  As a result, your attendance and participation are vital. The school budget discussion will be early on in the agenda so feel free to bring your children and leave after the school budget vote.

We understand that getting a babysitter can be challenging but we would love to see you there.
