We loved seeing friends from Country, Woodland, and Field Schools teaming up, working together, and using their creativity to check the items off their lists. Well done, hunters! Country School PTO Announcements for the week of May 16 – May 20, 2022

1. Spring Fling and Celebrate Weston – This Saturday!

Weston Public Schools’ annual Spring Fling is a special event open to all ages and will be held from 10am-4pm on Saturday, May 21 on the Town Green. This year, the event is being combined with the Town of Weston’s new Celebrate Weston event, so there will be local music entertainment, antique car displays, interactive historical exhibits, tours, food offerings, a street fair featuring local businesses, clubs and organizations, and more! (Rain date is Sunday, May 22).

All proceeds from this event help support Camp No Limits, a summer camp for children with limb differences. This event hasn’t taken place in person since 2019 so please bring your kids for a day of entertainment, games, food, live auctions and more!

2. Weston PTO Presents: RAISING BRAVE KIDS: Strategies for Parenting Children who have Anxiety

Friday, May 20th at 10 AM

NOTE: This event will meet in-person in the Community Meeting Room at the Weston Public Library AND on Zoom (link below)

Does your child worry a lot? Do they experience frequent stomach aches or headaches? Or do they avoid things like birthday parties, academic assignments, or extracurriculars out of fear? Anxiety in children and adolescents is on the rise, causing distress not just for children but for everyone in the family. Parenting kids with anxiety is HARD, and it is often counter-intuitive. In this talk, Dr. Katherine Boger will talk about how to differentiate normative and problematic anxiety in your child, and she will provide guidance about how and when to take action. She will also share tips and strategies for responding to your child’s anxiety and boosting their resilience.

Meeting ID: 696 623 0443;54321

Passcode: 54321

3. PTO Custodian Appreciation

We are so pleased to share another district-wide PTO appreciation effort: Custodian Appreciation. As with Nurse and Bus Driver appreciation, the Weston PTO allocated special funds to show appreciation and acknowledge our wonderful custodial staff for their efforts over the past two years. Our custodians have gone above and beyond to keep our schools safe, clean, and open, and we are so grateful for all that they do each day for our students! On Friday, we presented Head Custodian, Mr Kelly, with a $50 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card, and $40 Dunkin gift cards to support custodians Alex Ekedo and Kevin Kilcoyne. Thank you to the WPS families who purchase PTO memberships each year, and allow us to strengthen our community in ways like this!

The K-12 Art Show is back after a two-year hiatus! There will be an opening reception on Tuesday, May 17, from 5-7pm in the Weston High School Science Wing. We have been asked to reach out to parents to volunteer their time to hang and display artwork. We also are looking for volunteers who would be willing to set up the reception and provide snacks and water. Here is the link for volunteers to sign up. We hope parents across all grades will be willing to help make this show an extraordinary success and celebration of the artistic achievements of all of our children! Thank you so much for your willingness to help out!

The art show will run from 5/17-5/27, be sure to check it out!

6. PTO Hope & Comfort Drive

This is the FINAL WEEK to support the annual PTO Hope & Comfort drive. Please support this worthy cause!

Hope & Comfort is a local non-profit started by a Weston family that requests new and unexpired personal hygiene products to support and improve the health, self-esteem, and hygiene education of youth in need across Greater Boston.  The most needed items are deodorant, toothpaste, sulfate-free shampoo, bars of soap, and menstrual products.  Collection bins will be located in the lobby of each school or items can be delivered directly to Hope & Comfort by CLICKING HERE to purchase through an Amazon Wishlist.  Contact Theresa Nibi (theresanibi@gmail.com) or Stacy Simon Gilman (Stacysimon21@gmail.com) with any questions.

7. My School Bucks

WPS is transitioning away from Webtrac to MySchoolBucks for school lunches and for many other fees and transactions. This transition will streamline fees, fundraising, and other transactions on one platform. Visit HERE for more info if you do not yet have an account or if you need a refresher.
