ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN

Our Elementary School Principals presented the School Improvement Plan to the School Committee last week. If you were not able to be there in person, we encourage you to watch the presentation to learn about all the amazing things the Elementary Schools have planned for this year.

REMINDER – WINTER GEAR FOR SCHOOL

As the weather changes, it is important that your child brings the appropriate winter gear to school. Students should bring a hat, pair of gloves and a heavy winter coat. If there is snow, students should wear winter boots with a change of shoes and snow pants. We will be going outside unless it is pouring or freezing (real feel below 20 degrees.) It is also a good idea for students to leave an extra pair of socks in school because often the grass we play on is wet.

CONVERSATIONS WITH HRS (HUMAN RELATIONS SERVICE)

Thursday, December 1st at 7pmThe Weston PTO presents: Conversations with HRS about child and teen mental health issues in Weston. The United States is facing a national emergency when it comes to teen mental health. Curious about the main issues therapists are treating and trends they are seeing in Weston and neighboring towns? Join us Thursday, December 1st at 7pm for a conversation with Lindsay Steinsieck, Psy.D and Kristen Aberle, Psy.D about what issues HRS are seeing.

RSVP Kat Wilberton: kwilberton@yahoo.com or Marian Johnson: marian.b.johnson@gmail.com for location details.

SAVE THE DATE –  GLOBAL DIVERSITY FAIR!

Thursday, January 26th Please save the date and consider getting involved in the much-anticipated return of the Elementary Global Diversity Fair on Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm. This event relies on families to volunteer to host a booth representing their culture, country or region. A Sign-Up will be sent out via Room Parents in the coming weeks, so please keep an eye on your inbox!

CS LUNCH MONITOR SIGN-UP

Country School needs lunch monitors!! We are now looking for parent volunteers. We have added more slots for November and December. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out this sign up. Monitors are needed daily from 11:15-1. Please take as many slots as possible. How fun to get to see your kids in action at school!!

BRISTOL LODGE ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE – LAST CHANCE

(November 1 – November 23) Please support the Weston PTO and elementary schools’ annual drive for Waltham’s Bristol Lodge Food Pantry and Homeless Shelters. The drive will run from November 1 to November 23.  Children can bring non-perishable donations to the designated collection bins at Country. The goal is to collect at least 2,000 items from each elementary school!  Suggested items to donate include canned goods, pasta, boxed juices, cereals, kids’ snacks, condiments, baby food, dried beans and rice.  Pull top-lids are preferred, and all items must be non-expired.

In addition, we are offering the option to donate a grocery store gift card (suggested stores are Stop & Shop, Star Market and Market Basket).  Please send grocery gift cards to Stacy Gilman, 26 Candleberry Lane, Weston, MA or email to stacysimon21@gmail.com.  Venmo donations are also accepted at @Michelle-Raymond-58  (7316 last four digits of phone #).  Please involve your students and give!

**The CS 2nd graders help oversee the collection of the items. During the next few weeks, they will make use of their data collection and graphing skills as the goods begin to pile up. On Wednesday, November 23rd, the collection will be sent off to Bristol Lodge. This drive always strengthens our community by bringing us together for a common good. Be on the lookout for lots of reminders and communications as we collect items over the next few weeks.**

DISTRICT CURRICULUM FORUMS

You are invited to upcoming forums for families about each curriculum used in grades K-5. Goals of these forums include 1) sharing more details with you about each curriculum, and 2) hearing from you in person about each curriculum.

These events are scheduled around the subject area rather than grade level or school. While forums will take place at each school, each elementary grade subject curriculum will be discussed grouped by topic, and families are welcome to attend multiple forums over the coming months.

You don’t need to sign up ahead of time to attend a curriculum forum. If you cannot attend the forums, please email questions for the forums in advance to Superintendent@weston.org. All forums will be live streamed via Zoom webinar and Zoom links will be shared closer to each event.
