CS PTO Update

Hello, Country School Families,

This week, we’re excited about the Elementary Coding Night event, which the PTO’s STEM committee is hosting on Thursday 2/9 in the Woodland Gym. Students can participate in various coding games and challenges, and can earn prizes in doing so. No coding experience is necessary, and parent volunteers will be on hand to help. More details below!

We also encourage families to Zoom into the BWMPO’s virtual John Hudson Scholarship event this Saturday, 2/11! The event will feature METCO high school students’ reflections on their experience in Weston Schools. We hope you join the conversation! More details on this below, too.

Best regards, Jessie & Jess CS PTO Co-Chairs

Thursday, February 9th – 5:30-7:30. The Weston PTO STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) Council is hosting a Coding Night for elementary school families in the Woodland Cafeteria and Gym this Thursday, February 9, from 5:30-7:30 PM. Earn prizes by completing various coding games and challenges! No coding experience necessary. Children are required to be accompanied by an adult. Most activities require a personal or school-issued device. Students in Grades 2-5 have the option to bring home their classroom Chromebook if they have submitted the WPS User Agreement. Students in Grades K-1 can bring a personal laptop, Chromebook, or iPad or just participate in the analog stations. Please reach out to BJ Grattan with questions.

JOHN HUDSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER

BWMPO (Boston Weston METCO Parents Organization) in collaboration with our HS Academic Liaison, Tanaja Jordan, cordially invite you to our virtual John Hudson Memorial Scholarship fundraiser.  Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 11th at 2PM, submit your payment via Venmo @BWMPO1, and register here. Tickets are $30/per household. Advance registration is required. This year’s presentation will feature METCO high school students and is entitled “Reflections of METCO Students: High School Student Perspectives.” The conversation promises to be informative and engaging.  We urge you to be a part of the discussion and to continue it well beyond this event. You don’t want to miss this event. For questions, please contact Keitrice Johnson at keke927@gmail.com or our treasurer at bwmpotreasury@gmail.com.

SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR WESTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS

WEEFC funds make it possible for our schools to access innovative resources that elevate our children’s learning experience at an average historical rate of $100 per student. Our Show Your Love fundraising campaign is underway, and every gift counts—regardless of size. Our year-long goal is to engage 100% of WPS families, and to sweeten the deal, we’ll be tracking donors by school through February 28. The school with the largest percentage of participation will win a visit from the Kona ice truck. So share the love, and get giving by clicking here (https://www.westonschools.org/education-enrichment-fund-committee-weefc/ways-to-give/)!

PTO BOARD POSITIONS

The PTO is looking for volunteers to be on the board for next school year. There are a variety of open positions available; please see below for the complete list. Read the position descriptions here.

One available position is the Country School Co-Chair. If you have any interest in this, please reach out to Jessie & Jess. We are happy to meet and chat with anyone who is interested in learning about what this position entails. There are so many great aspects to being a school chair besides sending out these weekly emails! It is a great way to get more involved with the school and get to know all the faculty, staff and other parent volunteers. As School Chair, you have a unique opportunity to work closely with Mrs. Maguire and plan amazing community events. We also work very closely with the other Elementary school chairs to plan these events and appreciations, making it much more fun and easy.

If you have any interest in this position, or any other on the board, please reach out to us our Nancy Trodden, the nominating Committee Chair.  We would love to have you be a part of the PTO! All nominations are due by February 17, 2023.

Open positions include: Vice President, Co-Chairs at Woodland, Country, Field, Middle School and High School, Communications, Directory, Community Outreach, Performing Artists & Authors Committee, STEM Committee, Family Engagement, Membership, Parent Education, Westword, Green Team, SEPAC

INCOMING KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION NIGHT

Wednesday, February 15th – 6:30-7:30

The forum will be held from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Country School Cafetorium. All children who reside in Weston and who are five years old on or before September 1, 2023 are eligible for registration. Please help us get the word out to families with Incoming Kindergarteners!
