Parents: Serve on Country School Council

Dear Country School Families,

Country School has 1 open seat for parent/guardian representatives on the School Council. The position has a two-year term.

Serving on a School Council is a meaningful way for parents and guardians to contribute to the future of our school. Members work directly with the principal, educators, and other members of the school community to bring different perspectives to discussions about the school and its future.

As a School Council member, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Build relationships with the principal and other school leaders.

  • Learn more about how school priorities and decisions are developed.

  • Bring parent perspectives to important school discussions.

  • Work collaboratively with educators and fellow parents to strengthen the educational experience for all students.

Under Massachusetts law, every public school has a School Council composed of school staff, parents/guardians, and the principal. School Councils assist principals in developing educational goals, identifying student needs, reviewing the annual school building budget, and preparing the school’s improvement plan.

The School Council is expected to meet approximately four times during the school year.

If you’re interested in serving, please submit a candidate statement to Jess Catlin at tajhilliard@gmail.com by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18. Voting will take place from Monday, September 28, to Friday, October 2. The candidate receiving the most votes will be elected to the open School Council seat.

There is no required format for candidate statements, but you may wish to include:

  • Your name

  • The grade(s) of your child(ren)

  • Volunteer and community involvement

  • Professional or other relevant experience

  • Why you would like to serve on School Council

  • What perspectives or strengths you would bring to the role

We encourage parents and guardians from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences to consider serving. Diverse perspectives help make School Council discussions stronger and better reflect our school community.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Jess Catlin and Nicole Charos
