Proposed High School and Middle School Schedules
At the March 24, 2025, School Committee meeting, Dr. Zaleski, Dr. Carter, Principal Bairstow, and Principal Oates introduced the Scheduling Committee’s schedule proposals for the 2026-2027 school year. Introductory Forum
During the weeks of January 27 and February 3, Dr. Zaleski, Dr. Carter, and Principal Bairstow held forums with different stakeholders to introduce the model schedules. To view the parent forum held on February 4, please click here.
Glossary and Model Schedules
Click here to view the glossary of scheduling components and model schedules. As mentioned during the forums, the models are not the proposed schedules. While the recommendation to the school committee may include a variation of one or more of the models, their purpose is to demonstrate how scheduling components may appear in a new or revised WHS schedule.
Initiative Timeline
Phase 1—Information Gathering
September 2024: The Scheduling Committee Working Group synthesizes the work completed from January–May 2024, establishes the Steering Committee, and meets to discuss the scheduling design principles and review priorities.
October 2024: The Working Group disseminates a series of surveys to high school students, Grade 8–12 teachers, and Grade 4–12 parents to gather feedback from community members who have had direct experience with the existing secondary schedules or may have already looked ahead prior to their student entering the secondary schools. Dr. Zaleski, Principal Bairstow, and Principal Oates hold a parent forum and discuss the potential changes with the faculty.
Phase 2—Schedule Proposals and Decision Making
November 2024: The Working Group meets to process and discuss the survey data gathered and begins crafting potential schedule options. The Steering Committee meets to preview the draft schedules and provide early feedback.
December 2024: Dr. Zaleski presents an update on the scheduling initiative to the School Committee and releases the survey result summary. Community members will be able to click here after the presentation to view the results. Potential schedule options will not be available at this time.
January 2025: The Working Group proposes the schedule options and reviews them with the Steering Committee.
February 2025: Dr. Zaleski, Principal Bairstow, and Principal Oates hold a parent forum and a faculty meeting to present the scheduling options, and publish the proposals on the district website for the general public. The Working Group disseminates a second round of surveys to high school students, Grade 8–12 teachers, and Grade K–12 parents for feedback. The Working Group reviews and considers the feedback provided by the community, aligns the Middle School schedule if necessary, and finalizes their recommendation.
March 2025: The Scheduling Committee presents the final recommendation to the School Committee for approval.
Phase 3—Implementation (if applicable)
Spring 2025–August 2026: The administration and School Committee plans and prepares for the change by working with the teachers, developing the budget to support the new schedule, adjusting support systems, and potentially adapting the Program of Studies/Graduation requirements.
September 2026: Weston High School and Weston Middle School (if applicable) begin the school year with the new schedule.
