Grade 5 Celebration Information from the PTO

Hello Field School 5th Grade Families!

We hope everyone’s year is off to a wonderful start.
Fifth grade at Field School is a busy and exciting year for our kids as they enjoy their last year in elementary school.
We wanted to take a moment to share an update on what the PTO will be doing to make your 5th grader’s year really fun and meaningful, and small ways in which parents can help.
A lot of what we’ll be doing this year will be in preparation for the 5th Grade Celebration activities.  As is tradition, the kids will be feted with the 5th grade slideshow, which will be shown at the end of the year and again when the kids are seniors in high school!  (We’ll also send a copy by email.) And, we’ll also be creating a yearbook to capture, in hard copy, all of the wonderful memories from the video slideshow.
Here’s where you can help! Beginning in a couple of weeks, and throughout the year, we’re going to begin asking you for photos of your kids.  Examples of photos we might request include: first day of kindergarten and 5th grade, engaged in a favorite activity, hanging out with friends, playing instruments and anything else showing your kids being themselves.  We want to ensure we’re capturing your kids at their happiest and most authentic! So be on the lookout for these emails (from either me and Laura, or through your Room Parents) and we so appreciate your help and shared enthusiasm.
(Side note: We’ll first be sending out a photo release requesting your permission for your child to be included in the slideshow and yearbook.  It is important that you sign this as your child cannot appear without your consent.  Be on the lookout for it in the next week or two.)
Beyond the yearbook and slideshow, the kids will be treated to some spectacular celebration day activities.  In years past, kids have had a morning at the town pool, field day activities, inflatable water slides, and a drive-in movie.  These are beloved traditions and your children have undoubtedly been looking forward to them for years.  We cannot wait to make their experience really special!
We’re hoping to be able to utilize parent volunteers during the celebration day activities, as well.  We’ll share more information as the year progresses and we have a better idea of what the status of Covid in our community will be.
The above events will not be possible without your generous support, as well.  Sales of Field School and Weston apparel and gear and the yearbook all go toward financially supporting the celebration day.  Apparel and gear will go on sale in October and yearbook sales will take place in the spring.
And finally, the slideshow, yearbook and celebration wouldn’t be possible without the help of a few parent volunteers who are making all of the above possible. I would like to extend a special thanks to Jenny Rodriguez and Kim Smallman who have graciously agreed to create our slideshow and yearbook.  And another huge thank you to Margo Flint, who is spearheading the Celebration Day activities.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, have great ideas for activities, or anything else that comes to mind.

Warm regards,
Gillian Fachner & Laura Wilson
