FS Robotics Team Travels to Competition

GNCE* Butterfly Effect (Weston’s first Field School Robotics team) attended the FIRST LEGO LEAGUE World Event in California May 31 – June 2, 2024 with teams from around the world up to 8th grade.
From Butterfly Effect Co-Coach Cat Ciccolo (Tucker):
There were almost 90 teams from across the country and we counted 19 countries represented… everywhere from Kazakhstan to Slovenia, Brazil, Switzerland, and more.
The amount of designing, building, coding and presenting (not to mention problem-solving and collaborating together and with other teams) that these 5th graders did in the last several days is mind blowing!  All season, but especially here, everyone was shocked our team was so young and that it was everyone’s first year… but they certainly proved they belonged.  What an experience!
I am incredibly proud of our small but mighty, creative, funny and shockingly composed little team!  So much gratitude to their incredibly supportive families, too.  Special recognition to co-coach Allison King and daughter programmer extraordinaire team member Gabby King- who both mentored and encouraged from halfway around the world!
They achieved a team Personal Record during the robot matches.  They also placed 2nd for the “On the Spot” challenge (teams have to design and program a robot as a team for a new challenge on the spot without any prep).  They had a wonderful learning experience!
