June Academy at Camp Sunshine

June Academy kicked off with an amazing week at Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine.  WHS teachers Danielle Cooper and Jim McLaughlin are volunteering at Camp Sunshine with 10 WHS sophomores and juniors during Oncology Week. Camp Sunshine provides retreats combining respite, recreation and support, while enabling hope and promoting joy, for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families through the various stages of a child’s illness.

In only a few days the WHS students have made some very close connections with families at camp and have been helping with all aspects of camp from food services to being a counselor to life guarding.  Both Mr. McLaughlin and Ms. Cooper have been impressed with the students willingness to to embrace the camp spirit and do whatever needs to be done to make this week an amazing experience for the families that are attending.
