I hope you are enjoying the nice summer weather. As I promised in my last email to you, once I have new information regarding fall sports I would pass it along. Yesterday, the MIAA met and unanimously voted to delay the start of the High School fall sports season until September 14th (nothing will begin before 9/14). The thought behind this was to first and foremost allow for more time to understand where the state is with regard to Covid-19 as well as allow all students to be back in school and adjust to a new routine before beginning sports.
Right now we still do not know which fall sports can/will be played. That decision will come later from the governor and the Department of Education. Currently, there are a number of different scenarios begin considered for when we do return to competitive high school sports. The sports that are allowed to play this fall by the state & MIAA will have to follow guidelines determined by the state’s Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
As I mentioned to our coaches yesterday, this is still a fluid situation and as information becomes available I will pass it along to you. In the meantime, summer is extended for student-athletes across the state. Please feel free to reach out to me or any of our fall coaches for specific program information.
