Girls Outdoor Track Team- MIAA D5 STATE CHAMPIONS!

girls trackThe Wildcat women blasted through the heat to an overwhelming victory in the MIAA Division 5 State Meet, scoring 102 points to win, with North Reading 2nd with 56 points and all of the other over 50 schools trailing. Senior Julie Hohenberg led the charge with 3 gold medals, winning the 800, 1 Mile, and anchoring the school record (and first sub-4 minute) 4 x 400 meter relay in 3:58.47. Freshman Alessandra Gavris (1st in the 2 Mile, 2nd in the mile, anchoring the 4th place 4 x 800 relay) and senior Tally Zeller (4th in 400, 5th in 200, leadoff on the winning 4 x 400) also scored in 3 events, while senior Morgan Rome, sophomore Sloan Hinton, juniors Kaitlyn Ewald and Olivia Jackson and freshman Gabriela Friel all scored in 2 events. Morgan also broke her own school record in the javelin, establishing a new mark of 117’1″ with her 2nd place-winning throw.

The boys had a solid day as well, placing 5th out of the more than 50 teams competing. Carsen Valenta placed 2nd in the mile, showing off an impressive finishing kick in 4:31.22, and the team placed 5 pole vaulters over 10’0″, including a tie for 3rd between seniors Field Kasrel and Grant Berry at 12’6″ and a 5th place from senior Jacob Bley. Chase Hinton (shot put), Gauthier Bodet (javelin), and Clark Ohlenbusch (discus) all scored in the throws, and the 4 x 100 relay of sophomore Mark Leonardo, juniors Davis Palmer and Michael Pastrone, and Field Kasrel placed 3rd in a season’s best time of 44.22.
 Overall a great day for Weston track and Weston sports in general!
