WHS Boys and Girls Track Team News
The Weston Boys Outdoor Track Team Won the D5 State Championship (Back to Back) in convincing fashion scoring over 100pts (100.5).
Some notables on they team:
~ The point total of 100.5 is the most points ever scored by a Weston boys’ team in MIAA Competition, only once exceeded by the Weston girls, who scored 102 points in 2022.
~ Sophomore Aarav Mehta became only the second Weston male athlete ever to win 2 individual events in MIAA competition, with only Nick Dahl (shot put and long jump, 2021) matching his performance.
~ The boys won SEVEN (7) events which is amazing. The previous highest number of events won by a Weston team in MIAA competition was 5, which was only done once, in 1987.
~ The boys established 5 new meet records: Noah Lago in the 100 meters, Oscar Torres in the triple jump, Lucas Scully-Power in the pole vault, Ben Tavares in the 800, and the 4 x 100 meter relay. We also still hold
the 4 x 400 record from 2024, so Weston holds the Division 5 record in 6 of the 19 events!
~ The boys’ team has now wrapped up three straight seasons: outdoor 2024, indoor 2025, and outdoor 2025 in which they have won every team competition they entered, whether dual meets, DCL Championships,
State Relays, or State Championships. What a tremendous run of success!
On the Girls side:
~ Solana Varela ran a new school record in the hurdles , 1:00.97, beating All-American Giuliano Ligur to place 2nd. Solana’s time is in the Top 25 in the NATION!
~ Izzy Wheeler placed 2nd in the mile, 5.09.37
~ Claire Kakabeeke had a tremendous day, throwing a personal best 34’5″ to place 5th in the shot put after another personal best of 17.43 in the 100 meter hurdles.
~ Amy Robson vaulted 8’6″ to establish a new personal best, good for 8th place, and Beatrice Kickham tied her personal best in the vault also with her 7’6”.
~ Other medal-winners were Gabriela Friel, tied for 3rd in the vault and Jessica Bourne, who placed 7th in the mile.
