Weston Robotics students have seen their hard work translate into strong results across two consecutive weekends of tournament play. To date, nine Weston teams have successfully qualified for their respective State Championships—the strongest season opening in Weston’s history.

FTC Advanced Division

The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams demonstrated technical precision and strategic collaboration during their initial qualifying rounds:

Ryken Robobowl (St. John’s High School – Dec 14):

• GNCE Mercury, a second-year veteran team, delivered a standout performance. Partnered with ARC Hailstorm from Andover High School, Mercury secured the Winning Alliance title after a high-intensity, double-elimination final round.

Revere Qualifier (Revere High School – Dec 20):

• GNCE Diamond, the fourth-year veteran team, secured the top spot as the overall Inspire Award winner. Diamond also finished as the Finalist Alliance Captain during the final elimination match with team Liquid Oxygen from Needham.
• GNCE Emerald, a first-year rookie team comprising middle and high school students, finished 11th overall in the preliminary rounds. This ranking placed them among the top three rookie teams at the event—a significant achievement given their compressed early-season build cycle as a new team.

Currently, GNCE Mercury and GNCE Diamond represent two of only eight teams statewide to have secured a spot at the 36-team FTC State Championships on March 15th.

Organized Anarchy will make their season debut at the Andover High School qualifier on January 11th, while all four FTC teams will utilize the upcoming window to iterate on their designs before the second round of qualifying events in late January and early February.

FLL Introductory Division: State Championship Recap

Seven of Weston’s FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams completed their 4 month season by participating in two major FLL state championship events, showcasing excellence in their innovation projects for developing engineering solutions to solve challenges in archeology, robot design and autonomous programming.

• Eastern MA State Championship (Newton HS – Dec 19): Five Weston-based teams competed among the top-tier programs in the region. Artemis Rage (7th grade) earned 1st Place in Robot Design and 2nd Place in Robot Performance. Other Weston teams who competed at the championship included the GNCE Juggernauts (7th grade), RAVENS (6th grade), Spikey Scouts (6th grade), and RoboQuackers (5th grade).
• Western MA State Championship (WPI – Dec 13): Butterfly Effect (7th grade) and Lego Impossible (5th grade) represented Weston at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

The success of Weston Robotics is made possible through the collaborative effort of the community. The students would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Town of Weston, the school administration, our dedicated head FTC coaches Ken Huang and Chris de la Rosa, and the school lab supervisors. We also wish to recognize the 40+ volunteer parent mentors whose guidance is vital to student growth in STEM.

GNCE Diamond Robot:
A High-Flying Finish: GNCE Diamond (Team 22489) executes a 18-inch vertical lift. This advanced maneuver allowed alliance partner Liquid Oxygen (Team 9326) to fit underneath them in the blue scoring zone. In a game where robots score primarily by tossing wiffle balls into goals, this coordinated “double-park” provided a significant point boost in the final seconds of the match.
