Ushering in the New Year

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Alfred, Lord Tennyson, 1850

With each New Year holiday comes the hope of renewal, based on resolutions and re-commitments. While not all resolutions make it past that first day, being reflective about our lives is a wonderful habit of mind. That first step to improvement can be the crucial ingredient to success. There is an old Irish proverb that captures this: “Making the beginning is one third of the work.”

I wish you all the best in 2015.

“…[I]ncorporating…innovative technology may not change the way classes are taught this year, but it has started a revolution in how learning and teaching are being conceptualized. I’m excited to see what is to come from both students and teachers.” — Mary Liu, WHS science teacher and creator of edX’s “Ramp Up for AP Biology”
