WPS Teacher Profile -
Kim Concannon, Kitchen Manager
Kim Concannon, Food Service Kitchen Manager for all three elementary schools, has worked for the Weston Public Schools for sixteen years. Her attributes as a cook are well known and much appreciated by all as just one taste of her amazing tomato soup underscores. She meets everyone with a big smile and a greeting in her lilting Irish brogue.
What are two things you like best about being a Food Service manager for the three elementary schools?
I like being available when someone needs me. I like interacting with the principals and trying to envision their goals for the kitchens and helping to make it happen. It is all new for me, but I am enjoying it very much.
What is one thing you have accomplished in your life that might surprise students?
I left Ireland at nineteen to come to America for six months. Thirty two years later I am still here. I am happy where I have gone in my job. I love the people I work with. I said “no” to this new position initially because part of the job was needing to get my GED, so that scared me. I am very lucky to have people that believe in me and are giving me time to get it. Right now I am in class at night (still pretty intimidated).
Would you like to host a show about cooking for an elementary school on the Food Network?
No, I would be too nervous!
What song are you most likely to hum on your ride to work?
I usually end up humming whatever the last song is I listened too.
Drives my husband crazy.
What took you “grit” to learn?
I feel I am still trying to learn this position especially on how to split my time between the three schools.
So scheduling will be my focus for next year.
