Health & Wellness Practices
In light of recent public health concerns and with the advent of flu season, Patty Wright, Nurse Leader for the Weston Public Schools; Wendy Diotalevi, Weston Public Health Director; Jane Brown, Public Health Nurse; and I met to review our protocols.
In keeping with our past practices, we are in continuous contact with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and our health officials monitor information from the Center for Disease Control. We work closely with our Facilities Department to minimize infectious diseases through increased sanitation. We also recommend that Weston students and family members receive the flu vaccine. In addition, it is important that all members of the Weston community follow infection control guidelines:
* Do not send children to school if sick with influenza like illnesses (view The Flu Symptom Checklist at: www.mass.gov/flu )
* Communicate with your child’s nurse regarding illness and related symptoms
* Stay home for 24 hours after fever abates without taking fever-reducing medications
* Practice frequent and thorough hand washing and proper cough etiquette
* Do not share eating utensils, cups or water bottles
