PLAN Test (now Aspire)
will not be administered this year
Visit GuidanceAs many of you know we had traditionally given the PLAN test (an ACT predictor test) to the sophomore class in October.  ACT is no longer offering this test and has replaced it with Aspire.
Visit Sophomore Class Events
After much consideration, we have decided not to administer Aspire this year to our students. Instead we will be administering an actual practice ACT exam during the month of March when our sophomores will have covered more of the content required and will be best prepared.  We will be announcing the specific date as soon as we solidify the arrangements with ACT.

Congratulations to all our high school varsity, junior varsity and 9th grade teams and coaches for their participation in the first annual W-Day Challenge with the Wayland High School sport teams. Weston took the 2014 victory.

After School Detention
    Tuesday and Thursday, 3 pm
Room 6
    Students failing to report to their assigned Detention (or failing to have been excused in advance) will be assigned an additional two hour Detention, and will be required to repeat the time owed.
A parent phone call or note after a missed Detention does not constitute an excused absence.
    Work, lessons/rehearsals or athletic practices/events will not be considered an excused absence from Detention. Students are responsible for adjusting their schedules in advance to complete Detention obligations.

GULF COAST SERVICE TRIP

February 11-19, 2015

Doc Prov is looking for 30 willing, energetic and hard-working students to help restore the community and land still devastated by Hurricane Katrina. We will head to New Orleans, to build, work with

National Orchestra
October 26-29, 2014
Nashville, TN
Josh Avery (viola), Lilia Chang (violin), Sara Kawai (Harp) and Hannah Levine (String Bass) have been selected to participate in the 2014 NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles, which represent the top performing high school musicians in the United States.

The Big Picture:  Rethinking Dyslexia - Thursday, October 16, 2014, 7-9pm.  Please join us for the exceptional documentary regarding dyslexia, the most common learning difference (1 in 5 kids) yet the most publicly misunderstood. Dyslexics are bright yet struggle with reading.  There will be a diverse panel that will include: a neuropsychologist;  Orton Gillingham Fellow, Wilson Literacy Team member, a representative from Lexia and the Massachusetts Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (MABIDA); and a parent.  This event is sponsored by Weston PAC, Weston Student Services, Wayland SEPAC & Wayland Student Services. Parent portal to open Tuesday, October 14, 2014. The portal will strengthen the ability for all of us involved in students’ progress in their classes to communicate meaningfully and effectively. You'll be able to have specific conversations with your children and teachers regarding homework production, quizzes, tests, and projects.

Teachers will update information regarding students’ progress a minimum of every two 8-day cycles for short-term assignments (approximately every 2-3 weeks).and no later than three cycles after the due dates of long-term projects and assignments (approximately every 4-5 weeks).  Traditional progress reports given at the midpoint in each quarter will be required only for students on an IEP or a 504.   Posted 9/30/14

Vote for Your WHS School Council Parent Representatives  by Wednesday, October 1. The Council is comprised of faculty, administration, students, an at-large community member and four parents..  It advises the school principal, assisting with: identifying the educational needs of the students, reviewing the annual budget, and formulating a school improvement plan and/or educational goals.  Vote online for two Parent Representatives   Contact PTO Co-Chairs Shannon Burrow or Barbara Critchlow for details.
