Additional information about MS fall sports

Good Afternoon Middle School Families,

I am reaching out to provide some additional information regarding the 2021 Fall Middle School Sports Season.  Most of your children have already been to a few practices and games will begin the end of this week for a few teams. However, I wanted to make sure everyone is familiar with how middle school sports will run this fall. Our schedule will be up on Arbiterlive (www.arbiterlive.com) beginning tomorrow.

Boys Soccer: Coach Matt Cedrone – cedronem@weston.org – open to 7th & 8th graders

Boys Soccer will practice and play 4 days a week  on Wildcat Field.  Games will begin at home at 3:45pm.  Wednesday will be this teams day off. Practices will begin at 3:30pm and end at 5/5:15pm.

Girls Soccer: Coach Attia Linnard –  linnard38@gmail.com – open to 7th & 8th graders

Girls Soccer has had a great turnout and in an effort to ensure all our students have an opportunity to be a part of a team, represent their school and town we are keeping a bigger roster then normal.  Therefore, Coach Linnard will divide the team into a “Core” team of 10-12 players who will play in most all games as well as a “Maroon” group and “White” group which will accompany the Core (every other game). For example: Core + Maroon to the 1st game and then Core + White to the second game switching each game throughout the season. However, ALL groups will practice together. All student-athletes will receive a uniform as well.  Thursday’s will be this teams day off. Practices will begin at 3:30pm and end at 5/5:15pm.  All games & practices will be held at Bus Barn Field.

Football: Coach Chris Brown – brownc@weston.org – open to 6th, 7th & 8th graders

Football also has had a great turnout this fall with upwards of 30 players out for the team. Football will always practice/play on Field 6 which is right next to Proctor. Most games will begin at 4:00pm and we have an 8 game schedule. Football will practice/play 4 days a week as well. Practices will begin at 3:30pm and end at 5/5:15pm.

Boys & Girls Cross Country: Coach Annie Mazer – mazera@weston.org – open to 6th, 7th & 8th graders

Boys & Girls Cross Country will begin this afternoon.  The team will meet by the Proctor Field Track near the large mats. This team will begin practices at 3:30pm Mon, Tue. Thur. & Fri. and be done by 4:20pm.  Wednesday’s will be their day off each week.

Girls Volleyball: Coach Chris Fraser – coachfraser16@gmail.com – open to 7th & 8th graders

Girls Volleyball will be run very similarly to Girls Soccer. Many students have registered for this program and we are trying to ensure all get opportunities to play/practice. Like Girls Soccer the team will be split into 3 groups – Core, Maroon & White where as the Core group will go to most matches accompanied by either the Maroon or White group which each switching every other game. ALL will practice together daily and Girls Volleyball will have Wednesday’s as their off day. Practices will begin at 3:30pm and end at 5/5:15pm.

.

Misc:

  • Field Hockey players can report daily to Field 1 beginning at 3:45 for practice with the JV team.
  • I would like to personally apologize to those 6th grade students and families who had registered for Girls Volleyball.  I know there was some confusion as to if they could play or not this fall and for that I take full responsibility for. I was hoping we could accommodate everyone who wanted to play, but our numbers are just too high with 7th & 8th graders to do so. If I can assist in anyway with finding your daughter a volleyball club team to play for please do not hesitate to reach out.
  • Reminder: Many times for away contest the bus is late in getting back to Weston.  Please be aware of this should your student need transportation home after an away contest.

.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
