The Feasibility Study Process
Weston High School and Weston Middle School have reached the stage in their life cycle where the town and district must evaluate the current state of the buildings and determine the best and most fiscally responsible means to move forward, all while ensuring Weston Schools are able to offer the same caliber of excellence for years to come.
The Town of Weston has engaged an architect, Lavallee Brensinger, to develop a master plan for the Weston Middle/High School Campus. The reasons for conducting the study include, among others:
- Several building systems are aging and need replacement—should the town renovate or rebuild?
- Schools lack adequate small group spaces, and some classrooms fall below state size recommendations.
- Enrollment is expected to grow 20-40% over the next decade.
- Recreation and athletics need upgrades, including the pool.
- The Middle and High Schools are the town’s biggest energy users — efficient, fossil-fuel free systems are needed to meet climate goals
This study will consider a range of options including renovating the existing schools with no additions or changes in program; renovating the existing schools with additions; and building a new school or schools. Options with and without MSBA funding will be considered.

A feasibility study, and building projects in general, require a highly collaborative process and cannot be successful with the input of the community. If you are interested in participating, please keep an eye out for an email from the Office of the Superintendent requesting volunteers. Depending on the stage of the process, the district may prioritize community members with direct experience with the current middle and high school facilities; however, we hope to garner feedback from every corner of this community by the end.

In addition to specific forums and working groups, we will be hosting four community meetings over the course of the feasibility study and all are encouraged to attend. The current schedule is as follows:

Community Outreach
During their annual summer retreat, the School Committee opted to dedicate the 2025-2026 school year to engage with the greater community, educating them on the potential pathways available to the town and soliciting feedback on the options presented in the feasibility study.
On December 12, 2025, Weston Public Schools was invited to join the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s (MSBA) Eligibility Period, shifting the focus of the project toward this funding pathway. The MSBA’s program is highly structured by design and community outreach will continue in accordance with their timelines.

MSBA Eligibility Program
The Town of Weston was invited to join the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s (MSBA) Eligibility Period on December 12, 2025. As explained by School Committee member Ken Newberg at their December 15 meeting, the district took a multipronged approach to the building project, with all work to date serving as preparation for either a self-funded path or one seeking MSBA reimbursement. If accepted into the MSBA’s full program, the town is projected to be eligible for a reimbursement rate of at least 31%.
The 270-day Eligibility Period is designed to formalize and streamline the start of the MSBA grant approval process. For the Town, this phase provides a clear and predictable timeline for completing preliminary requirements, helps assess both financial and community readiness, and identifies key considerations for future planning and budgeting. Successfully completing all activities during the Eligibility Period positions the Town to be eligible for an MSBA invitation to proceed to their Feasibility Study.
