Creation of a District-Wide Equity Committee

The Weston Public Schools (WPS) is forming a long-term Equity Committee that will function as a district advisory body to the School Committee and the larger WPS community. The Committee will advise the District on its strategic goals related to diversity, equity, and inclusivity and will work to support the district’s programs, policies, and curricula that further that work.

The Committee will work with Superintendent Midge Connolly and Director of District Advancement, Amy Kelly to bring coherence to WPS’ district efforts to promote equitable and inclusive practices throughout the WPS community. Interested parents, community members, students, and educators are invited to apply for a spot on the Committee. Please see below for details.

Creation of a District-wide Equity Committee 

The Weston Public Schools (WPS) is forming a long-term Equity Committee that will function as a district advisory body to the School Committee and the larger WPS community.

Committee Charge

The purpose of the Committee is to advise the District on its goals of diversity, equity, and inclusivity and to support the district’s programs, policies, and curricula that further that work. The Committee will work with Superintendent Midge Connolly and Director of District Advancement, Amy Kelly to bring coherence to WPS’ district efforts to promote equitable and inclusive practices throughout the WPS community.

Committee Make-up 

Along with the Superintendent, Director of Advancement, and a School Committee Member, the group’s composition will include:

  • 1-2 at large community members
  • 1 school-based administrator
  • 2 parents/guardians
  • 2 high school students
  • 2 educators
  • Rotating attendance by various Administrative team members

Requirements

  • Member Characteristics: Respectful and honest communication, patience, ability to work with individuals with various learning styles and perspectives, and a commitment to looking longterm at the steps needed to continually improve the District’s cultural responsiveness and goals of inclusivity and equity
  • Minimum one year commitment
  • Ability to attend monthly meetings and some additional monthly work on subcommittees
