Medical Advisory Board Members

The following individuals are members of the District’s Medical Advisory Board, which is working with the administration and other partners and stakeholders to help keep the school community learning safely, and work towards the safe reopening of schools during COVID-19.

  • Hanna Burnett, MPH, BSN, CCRN-CSC
    • Extensive background in nursing including critical care, public health, and school settings. She holds a Master in Public Health with focus on Health Promotion from Liberty University. She received her Bachelor of Nursing in Finland in 1998 where she was chosen as the program representative to study a year abroad at Florida Atlantic University. She has a passion for teaching, researching, and developing policy and programs in health promotion and disease prevention. Her focus is on addressing social determinants of health in communities. She recently coordinated community resources for the THRIVE platform used at Boston Medical Center.
    • During the current pandemic, she has worked for the Town of Weston as part of their Covid-19 response unit and is a member of Wightman Tennis Center’s Covid Committee. As a critical care nurse at St. Elizabeth’s hospital she has treated many patients with Covid-19 and is practiced in methods to mitigate risks from exposure. She also has three children attending Weston public schools.
  • Dr. Angela Fitch, MD, FACP, FOMA
    •  Associate Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Weight Center and faculty at the Harvard Medical School, with expertise in obesity, internal medicine, and pediatrics. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and then stayed for a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics. Dr. Fitch was chief resident in internal medicine before moving to Minnesota to practice primary care at Fairview Health Systems and the University of Minnesota. She currently is also serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Obesity Medicine Association and previously served as a trustee.
  • Dr. Joseph A. Grocela, BS, MD, MPH
    • Now-retired board-certified Urologist who worked at MGH for almost 30 years. He graduated Yale in 1987 with a mechanical engineering major. His Harvard Masters in Public Health thesis studied factors which promote good health care decisions.  He has worked as a legal expert witness for medical malpractice and biomedical engineering cases. He has three children, all of whom have attended or are attending the Weston Public School system. He serves as a concerned parent and one who loves the Weston Community. 
  • Kathleen Mortimer, ScD
    • Epidemiologist with Doctorate of Science from Harvard School of Public Health with expertise in public health data modeling. Currently working as Director of Epidemiology for OM1, Inc.
  • Dr. Karen Sadler, MD
    • Pediatrics Specialist in Newton with over 32 years of experience in the medical field. Dr Sadler is Weston Public Schools school contracted doctor and has been with us for two years.  She is also the doctor for Newton Public Schools, and has a long affiliation with working with schools.  She graduated from Harvard Medical School, affiliated with both Newton Wellesley and Massachusetts General Hospital.
  • Michele Fronk Schuckel, MBA, BSN, RN
    • Leads Town of Weston Board of Health COVID-19 response team and in this role is charged with coordinating contact tracing and case follow up management for Weston. Acts as liaison between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences,  DESE, the Department of Labor Standards, and other State agencies and the Weston Board of Health, Weston Emergency Services, residents, and all public and private schools in Weston. She brings this perspective, and 25 years of experience in healthcare management, healthcare information technology, and in-patient, school and community nursing to this volunteer role on the Medical Advisory Committee for the Weston Public Schools.
    • Michele is also a wellness coach, teaching the practices of mindful living to promote healthy responses to the normal, and pandemic-driven, stresses of life. Educated at the University of Michigan and Babson College she is a proud mom of three children in the Weston Schools.
  • Denise Schwerzler MSN, BA, RN, NCSN
    • Has been working as a nurse for the past twelve years with two years as a cardiac nurse and ten years as a school nurse.  She is part of the COVID-19 response team, and stays up to date with current MA state department regulations and directives regarding contact tracing, surveillance, and testing by attending the weekly meetings put forth by the MA Department of Public Health.  Prior to nursing, she worked for 18 years in the Exposure, Epidemiology, and Risk Program at the Harvard School of Public Health.
  • Dr. Jamy Gaynor, Ed.D., MS, BSN, RN, NCSN
    • Currently the Director of Health Services for the Weston Public Schools, Jamy began her career as a neuroscientist investigating learning and memory at UMass Amherst, then transitioned to nursing where she has spent the last 15 years in both intensive care and school settings.  More recently, Jamy received her Ed.D. from Regis College and teaches in the Master of Science in School Nursing Program at Elms College.  Prior to her transition to Weston Public Schools, Jamy was an integral member of the Covid-19 Operations and Planning committee and acted as liaison to the Board of Health for Marlborough Public Schools where she also functioned as a contact tracer for the town.  Jamy brings knowledge of emergency management, mindfulness support for students, and health education for students and families.
