Message From The Superintendent (Outdoor Masks)

The following “Message from the Superintendent” regarding outdoor mask requirements was sent out to the school community on the evening of Monday, May 17:

___________________________________________________________________

Dear Weston School Community,

Today Governor Baker announced a roll-back of outdoor masking requirements for schools, beginning tomorrow Tuesday May 18, 2021.

In accordance with this change:

  • While outside on the grounds of the Weston Public Schools, we will no longer be requiring any type of face covering to be worn outside during regular recess, lunch, mask breaks, and most other outdoor activities.
  • According to Governor Baker’s release, masks are still required to be worn inside of school buildings.
  • We will continue to maintain safe social distancing, both indoors and outdoors, as we have practiced all year.

We will keep these and all other safety protocols in place until we get more specified direction from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which could come as soon as tomorrow.  Additionally, we are still waiting for further clarification from the MIAA regarding athletics and the State Department of Public Health and local Weston Board of Health on chorus, band, and other nuanced outdoor gatherings and programs.

Thank you. Best,

Dr. Midge Connolly
