Superintendent’s Update
The following message was sent out to families via email on the evening of September 8, 2021.
Dear Weston School Community,
This Saturday marks the twentieth anniversary of 9/11. To recognize, remember, and honor those who passed on that tragic day and those who have died while serving our country since 2001, we will be holding a moment of silence in all our schools on Friday September 10, 2021, at 8:46AM. Other schools across Massachusetts will also be holding moments of silence at the same time.
As stated by Tom Scott, Executive Director of Massachusetts School Superintendents in a communication dated September 1, 2021:
“The hope is that this moment of peaceful reflection in honor of those we lost on September 11th, Massachusetts Fallen Military Heroes since 2001, and the 13 American troops this week in Afghanistan, brings comfort to their families and loved ones. And, that this act of unity by school children across our state serves as a reminder of our strength as a community and Commonwealth. Importantly, this can serve as a platform to emphasize heroic service, unity, and compassion as we reconvene for the school year.”
There will be age-appropriate explanations shared before that time, and support will be given to students, as needed, after the moment of silence. If you have any questions or concerns about this having an impact on your child please reach out to your school counselor or principal. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Best,
Superintendent of Schools
