Welcome Back: A Letter from Dr. Zaleski (August 2023)
Dear Weston Families,
I hope you are having a relaxing, fun Summer with family and friends. I am eager to begin the 2023-2024 school year as your Superintendent, and I look forward to getting to know you. During the summer, I had a chance to meet parents, staff, members of the community, and students in the Extended School Year program. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and eager to share their experiences. Learning about Weston’s many programs, activities, and initiatives was inspiring.
Walking the school grounds and the trails in Weston has become part of my morning routine, and I have been taking in the beauty of this town and the fruits of the labor of the maintenance staff. They have been doing a terrific job preparing our buildings and grounds for the opening of the schools and ensuring students are educated in a safe, accepting, and comfortable environment.
This year, one of my many goals is to develop lasting partnerships that promote trusting, respectful relationships across the district and community. I have compiled an entry plan outlining key activities I will undertake over the next several months, ultimately informing our work together and the district’s strategic plan. Your input during this process is important to me, and I look forward to collaborating with you on this journey. Only together can we help all students achieve their highest potential!
This Summer, in partnership with the administration, we decided to transition Country and Woodland Elementary Schools back to open-serving lunch lines and eliminate bagged lunches. This helps reduce paper and plastic use and exposure to students and improves the overall quality of food and options available. Families at the Country and Woodland schools will receive a letter with more details in the coming days.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education ( DESE ) released an update regarding the status of universal free school lunch meals. This is exciting news; the information can be accessed via this link.
Returning to school is an exciting time and I look forward to welcoming everyone back, including our new students, staff, and administrators. Our collective commitment to pursuing excellence in every area, for all students, will be the cornerstone of our success.
All My Best,
Dr. Karen Zaleski
Interim Superintendent
