WELCOME COUNTRY FAMILIES
Welcome to music at Country School! The Music Curriculum is based on the Massachusetts Standards for Arts Education. Concepts include singing, playing instruments, improvisation and composition, critical response, connections to history and culture. Instructional approaches vary with grade level and utilize the philosophies and methodologies of Zoltan Kodaly, Carl Orff, and John Feierabend. The music department has adopted the Conversational Solfege system to teach students to read and sight sing music in standard notation.

Third graders will have the option to participate in Chorus beginning in January on Tuesday afternoons. Information and sign-ups will be forthcoming! See below for information regarding 3rd Grade orchestra.

3rd Grade Orchestra
Beginning in the fall, each student in 3rd grade at both Woodland and Country School will have the opportunity to join string orchestra. In addition to learning music, students will gain high self-esteem, learn self-discipline, problem solving, goal-setting, and the importance of teamwork; all skills needed in life beyond elementary school. We highly encourage all students to take advantage of this incredible opportunity.
String orchestra students will meet for one half-hour class within the school day, as well as one after-school rehearsal each week. Below are the designated rehearsal days for your planning purposes. We look forward to welcoming many of you to our Weston music community
