Country School PTO Announcements for the week of February 28 to March 4, 2022

1. Mask Update

This afternoon, Dr. Connolly and Jamy Gaynor sent an update about the shift to mask optional at WPS, the communication is attached HERE. Please review the updates that pertain to Country School and buses. CS is scheduled to shift to mask optional on Monday, March 7th.

2. Lost & Found Update

Thank you for reclaiming items from the lost & found! With the help of CS Instructional Coach Donna Guzman, we donated the remaining items to Cradles to Crayons. Please LABEL your student’s clothing and accessories; this will ensure it will make it back to you if left at school in the future!

3. NOTE! District Calendar Change – Added Half Day on 3/11/22

Weston Public Schools will now hold a half school day for all students on March 11th. The day will run from 8:00-11:30 for the elementary schools and 8:45-12:45 for the middle and high schools. March 11th was originally scheduled as a full professional day for educators and no school for students.

The reasoning is to reduce the number of school days in late June by reclaiming March 11th as a half school day, with professional development time for faculty in the afternoon.

As of now, the last day of school will be Tuesday, 6/21/22. There will not be school on Monday 6/20/22 due to the newly adopted Federal Holiday, Juneteenth. Here is the revised school calendar.

4. Upcoming Dates

  • Wednesday, March 2nd: CS Early Dismissal 11:30 am

  • Thursday, March 3rd Parent Forum 9am-regarding the upcoming shift to ” mask-optional” that will begin for CS &WS on Monday, March 7th
  • Friday, March 11th: 11:30 am dismissal – THIS IS NEW, please see the above note

5. Science Survey

The Elementary Science Team is starting a program review of our K-12 Science & Engineering program. If you have children in the different WPS elementary schools, please complete this short survey once for EACH school.  In providing feedback, feel free to comment on experiences and schools within WPS that your child previously attended. Thank you for participating in this survey.

6. Covid Testing

If you participate in the Sunday At-Home Testing Program, don’t forget to test tonight or first thing tomorrow. If you have a POSITIVE at-home test, take a photo and email it to Nurse Janet and Nurse Jamy. You do not need to send negative results.

More Testing Info:

In accordance with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) testing initiative, Weston Public schools will be adopting the State’s new COVID-19 testing program for K-12 schools which involves the scheduled distribution of weekly at-home antigen tests to students and staff. We are opting into this at-home testing program as a means of increasing testing opportunities for students and staff, regardless of vaccination status. This new at-home testing opportunity is voluntary and only those who sign up will receive tests. Please sign up/opt-in to this new at-home testing program using the following google form. For more information about updates to the statewide program, please click here or contact our District Health Services Director Jamy Gaynor. In addition to this new at-home testing program, we will continue pooled testing (now called “routine Covid safety checks”), reflex testing for positive pools and testing of symptomatic individuals. Available testing will include:

1. At-Home Rapid Antigen Testing on Sunday Night (must opt-in using the form linked above).

2. Routine Covid Safety Checks every week (if you have not yet signed up, click here).

3. Symptomatic Testing (if you have not yet signed up, click here).
