Taste Test Day

Happy New Year!  We are looking forward to continued adventures in vegetable-tasting into 2019.  Taste Test Day will resume on Wednesday, February 13th.  More information will be coming soon.  If you would like to submit a recipe or support this program with your time, please contact WPS Nutrition Analyst and Farm to School Coordinator Kelly Shaw.

The Latest on Lettuce

According to The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the source of the recent e. coli outbreak affecting Romaine lettuce has been identified.  We are working closely with our produce suppliers to ensure that we only provide lettuce that meets the FDA standards of food safety and is not from the affected area.  We appreciate your patience during this time as we may alter our menu to reflect current shortages of lettuce of all types.  If you have any questions please contact the Food Service Department!

Taste Test Day

In November, we had many adventurous taste testers try the Quinoa Salad with Vegetables. This recipe was packed with nutrients and submitted by Country/Field parent Mary Antaki. In December, Taste Test Day will be on Wednesday, December 12th.  Students will have the opportunity to sample Sweet Potato Applesauce Mash.  This is a three-ingredient dish can be made with homemade or store-bought applesauce and makes a tasty side dish for chicken or pork.  We will be using sweet potatoes grown locally at Land’s Sake Farm. If you have ideas for future taste tests or would like to volunteer, contact WPS Nutrition Analyst and Farm to School Coordinator Kelly Shaw.
