FS PTO Update Week of 9/20/21

Hello Field School Families!

Welcome to week four of the school year!  Jumping right into our announcements for the week…

Important Upcoming Dates & Announcements

Parent Coffees! Dr. Green will be holding two grade-specific coffees.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about what our kids will be doing throughout the year and have the opportunity to ask any specific questions.  Watch for Zoom links from Dr. Green prior to the calls.

  • 4th grade will be Thursday, September 23rd at 9am

  • 5th grade will be Thursday, September 30th at 9am.

Back to School Night is coming up on Thursday, September 30th.  We’ll have the opportunity to learn about the year ahead and spend time with our child’s classroom teacher.  Zoom instructions will be sent by Dr. Green prior to Back to School Night.

It has been a long-standing tradition to provide the teachers and staff remaining at school for Back to School Night with dinner prior to the event. We are thrilled that we can continue to honor our wonderful teachers and everyone else helping with the event. We will be bringing in dinner from Dumpling Daughter and teachers will have the opportunity to order from a specially-curated menu that looks wonderful!  If you would like to contribute toward the cost of dinner, we would be most grateful.  Contributions can be made via Field School’s PayPal account.  Any remaining funds will be used toward future faculty and staff appreciation events during the year.  (Please note that PTO collected dollars are NOT tax deductible as we are incorporated as a 501c4.)  Thank you in advance for your support!

Say Cheese! Picture day is scheduled for Thursday, October 7th.  Order forms will be coming home in backpacks soon.

Please help the Weston PTO support the Lincoln-Weston Food Pantry!  The Weston-Lincoln Food pantry is low on inventory and has asked for our help to restock their shelves.  While all donations are appreciated, they are particularly in need of non-dairy milk, nut butters, cereal, granola bars, oils, sugar, condiments and international foods.  Please make sure any donations are non-perishable, in sealed packages and not expired.  Donation bins will be located at all the Weston Public Schools from Monday, September 20th through Friday, October 1st.  Alternatively, gift cards to Market Basket or Donelan’s may be mailed to Kim Mai, 39 Pine Street, Weston, MA 02493 and monetary donations may be mailed to St. Vincent de Paul, P.O. Box 324, Lincoln, MA 01773 or Venmo’d to @Theresa-Nibi (5010 last four digits of phone #).  Thank you for your support of this important organization in our community!

Testing Testing  Families can now register students for Covid-19 testing.  Please see the WPS website for more information or contact Jamy Gaynor.

School Council Elections The Field School has one (1) open seat for a two-year term on the Field School School Council. This is an important and exciting opportunity for parents to get involved!

Every public school in the state is required, by law, to have a School Council made up of various representatives, including elected parents. According to the Mass. Department of Education, school councils are to assist principals in: adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards, identifying the educational needs of students attending the school, reviewing the annual school building budget, and formulating a school improvement plan.

The School Council meets monthly beginning in November and no previous experience or involvement with the school is required.

If interested in running for School Council, please send a candidate statement to Gillian Fachner by October 8.

School Council Elections will run from October 12 to October 15.

Coming Soon  Field School apparel and gear is coming soon! All proceeds from the sale will go toward supporting the 5th grade celebration day events and activities in June.

Friendly Reminders

Water Bottles! Please send your child in with a water bottle daily.  With the weather still being warm, teachers have advised that it is helpful and important for students to have access to individual water bottles to maximize both classroom and outside time.
