1. Field School Gratitude Project: Hopefully you saw our email last week regarding the project we are working on to highlight the Field School Core Values and this month’s theme of gratitude. We visited school during recess last week, and many students completed a gratitude leaf at that time. For those that didn’t have the chance, we are asking parents to help your student to answer the prompts in the Google Form below. Responses can be a single word or a few words that best represent your student’s feelings. Responses will be transcribed on paper leaves that will adorn three Gratitude Trees at school. This project is entirely optional, but we’d love your participation:

2. Principal Coffee: Dr. Green invites parents of all students in grades 3-5 to attend a discussion on social media/phone safety this Thursday, November 17 at 9:00 am in the Field School cafeteria. The discussion will focus on how schools and families can best support students as they increasingly encounter social media, as well as the pressures related to technology. Weston Police School Resource Officer, Lindsey Bazigian, will be a guest presenter. The presentation will be shared over Zoom for those unable to attend in person via the following link: https://westonorg.zoom.us/j/6719059093

In an effort to be environmentally friendly and cut down on food waste, we encourage you to bring your own coffee or tea in a reusable container.

3. Elementary Safety Forum:  You should have received an email from Dr. Green regarding the Elementary School Safety Forum this Friday, November 18 at Woodland School from 8:30-9:30 am. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce parents to the A.L.I.C.E protocol. ALICE is an acronym that empowers students and teachers to act when an intruder creates a hostile environment within the school:

A – Alert

L – Lockdown

I – Inform

C – Counter

E – Evacuate

There will NOT be drills at the elementary school level, but students will be introduced to Stay Safe Choices from the Safe and Sound Schools curriculum. The lessons from this curriculum will ensure that students and staff will know and use the same language and procedures if ever needed. For those unable to attend in person, you can use this Zoom link to access the forum.

4. Cafeteria Change: Our fourth and fifth graders are thrilled that hot lunch is returning to the Field School cafeteria! Beginning December 5, the cafeteria will be serving a hot lunch with multiple vegetable/fruit/grain choices that students can select on the spot when they have lunch. Lunch will continue to be free for all students, and there will no longer be a need for a food order form. You can view the lunch menu on the school website:

5. After School Sports: Field School is excited to welcome PE and after school sports teacher, Shira Catlin, back to Field School–and just in time for after school sports to begin on Monday, November 28! Please click the link below for sign up information:

7. Save the Date for the Multicultural Fair! We hope you will save the date and consider getting involved in the much-anticipated return of the Elementary Multicultural Fair on Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm. We are looking for volunteers to (1) host a booth representing a culture, country, or region; this is the heart of our multicultural fair. Feel free to partner with other members of the elementary community with whom you share a culture, country, or region to co-host a booth! We will also need volunteers to (2) assist with: a) set-up before the event; b) clean-up at the end; c) work a shift during the event; and/or d) help prepare materials leading up to the fair. This event relies on the help of volunteers, and a sign-up will be sent out via Room Parents this week so please keep an eye on your inbox!

8. Retirement Party for Country School’s Mr. Kelly: Our Field Schoolers who previously attended Country School all know their beloved custodian, Mr. Kelly! After 36 years of keeping Country School clean and creating a warm and welcoming environment, Mr. Kelly is retiring. Having touched the lives of so many families over the years, the elementary community is invited to join in the celebration at the Rec Center in the Great Room from 2:30-5:00pm on Friday, November, 18. Feel free to drop in any time to wish Mr. Kelly well. Students and families are welcome!

9. Bristol Lodge Annual Food Drive & Student Council Sock Drive (November 1 – November 23)

Please support the Weston PTO and elementary schools’ annual drive for Waltham’s Bristol Lodge Food Pantry and Homeless Shelters. The drive will run from November 1 to November 23.  Children can bring non-perishable donations to the designated collection bins at Field School. The goal is to collect at least 2,000 items from each elementary school!  Suggested items to donate include canned goods, pasta, boxed juices, cereals, kids’ snacks, condiments, baby food, dried beans and rice.  Pull top-lids are preferred, and all items must be non-expired.

In addition, we are offering the option to donate a grocery store gift card (suggested stores are Stop & Shop, Star Market and Market Basket).  Please send grocery gift cards to Stacy Gilman, 26 Candleberry Lane, Weston, MA or email to stacysimon21@gmail.com.  Venmo donations are also accepted at @Michelle-Raymond-58  (7316 last four digits of phone #).  Please involve your students and give!

As in years past, the Field School Student Council will partner with the PTO on this event, and there will be a special prize awarded to the class with the most items! In addition to the items listed above, Field will be collecting NEW men’s and women’s socks as part of the Student Council’s Socktober and Movember Socks and More! Socks can be sent into school with your student, to be placed in the designated collection bins.

10. The Weston METCO Fruit Sale is Back! 100% of the proceeds raised go to help support Weston High School METCO Student Activities. In the past we have been able to assist with field trip and AP exam fees as well as host special METCO student celebrations and community-building events! We would love to expand our effort and include supporting our Global Student Travel Fund, which offers scholarships to assist METCO Students’ participation in educational travel opportunities. Your orders will help to make this possible! Just click the following link to log on to our group fruit sale website: http://freshfruitorderorg/WestonMetcoFruit. The deadline for ordering fruit with a credit card online is November 20. If you would like to pay by cash or check, please contact Nancy Fournier at 781-786-5851 or fourniern@weston.org. Thank you for your support!
