Go ‘cats! Weston Town Meeting Updates, Spirit Day…and Stickers!

Dear Field School Families,

Weston Town Meeting is upon us, and Weston Public Schools need YOU to attend and vote!

Next Monday, May 8th, all Weston residents are urged to attend Town Meeting. Town Meeting is held in the Weston High School auditorium and begins at 7pm. There is childcare available with preregistration for kids in grades Pre-K-5 (see links and info below) at the Middle School. Our kids will be there and can’t wait to hang out with their classmates!  More information about Town Meeting and why your vote matters are outlined below in the School Committee message.

Go ‘cats!

What makes spending an evening with your friends and neighbors even better…free stickers!  We will be here to hand out “Go ‘cats!” stickers to all WPS parents/guardians who stop by our table near the WHS entrance.  It’s our very own version of an “I voted!” sticker (see the attached photo), so come show your support for our schools and get yours on Monday between 6:15-6:45pm before they run out!

We are all different and may feel differently about many of the important issues facing our community at this time–BUT we are all WPS Wildcats. So, while “Go ‘cats!” will mean something different to each family and student, it is our hope that we can wear it proudly together at this essential civic event.

SPIRIT DAY! Monday, May 8th!

In the spirit of “Go ‘cats,” we are so excited to announce that Monday, May 8th will be a Field School Spirit Day, and hopefully a district-wide spirit day! We’re urging our Field community to show their Weston pride, demonstrated through wearing Wildcat attire, Field logos, general Weston gear, Weston sports uniforms, or the classic Weston maroon, anything goes! Bonus points will be awarded to grownups who wear their Weston items to Town Meeting!

Please find the Kids Night Out registration and the message from the Weston School Committee about Town Meeting below.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday evening!

Town Meeting:

Weston’s annual town meeting will be held Monday, May 8, at 7 p.m. in the WHS auditorium. Early in the meeting, attendees will vote on the town’s proposed 2024 operating budget, which includes the budget for the Weston Public Schools recommended by the School Committee. (The warrant book for the meeting is available here; the budget will be voted on as part of article 2.)

We need as many residents as possible to attend the meeting in person and vote in support of the budget. In recent years, the percentage of attendees approving the budget has declined precipitously, from more than 90% to nearly 60%. It’s critical that the school budget passes to fund the educational programs we have planned for the 2023-2024 school year. Every vote counts: please enable all voting members of your household to attend town meeting!

To help parents attend the meeting, the WHS Student Council is offering a Kids Night Out. Children, ages pre-K to grade 5, will be supervised by WHS student volunteers from 6-9:30 p.m. at multiple school locations. Children will be grouped by age (pre-K-K, grade 1-3, grade 4-5), and the volunteers will engage them in games, sports, crafts and entertainment. Light snacks and water will be provided. Space will be limited, and a signed waiver and prepayment is required. NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER MAY 5, 2023. Proceeds will support students’ fundraising efforts and grade events.

If you have children, please take advantage of this opportunity. The registration form is available here.

Thank you for your support of the Weston Public Schools.
