On Saturday March 14, 2015 Weston High and Theater Company hosted and helped design the inaugural Massachusetts Theater Celebration, a new non-competitive venture run by the METG.
It was a great artistic and educational event. In addition to the shows, each participating director led a theater workshop.
After the performances, directors facilitated four discussion groups, mixing the students from all schools. Because it was non-competitive, kids were even more able than usual to engage with one another in open discussions of the plays. Lots of thinking about the work, the creativity, the challenges and solutions–and great conversations with the adjudicators, who gave verbal rather than written feedback in free-ranging discussions with the casts and crews after each performance.
Weston students received many for their production of Gray Shutters–which had its best performance:
Katherine Goff for the role of Kacie Foster
Georgia Harper for the role of Sophie Foster
Rachel Lipkin for the role of D’Arci
In addition, Becky Jesurum received an award for lighting design and the team of Katherine Goff, Charlie Hattabaugh, Becky Jesurum and Alex Seel received an award for Sound Design.
