WHS June Academy Info
To Parents, Guardians, and Students of Weston High School,
June Academy is finally upon us. What started as just a conversation a few years ago at a Principal’s Coffee is now underway thanks to the support from the Weston community. For the next two weeks, students will take a number of classes that have never before been offered at our high school. These courses will not only be fun and exciting, but will also be a robust educational experience for students and teachers that facilitates “learning for learning’s sake.” We hope that participation in these courses will spark a desire for students to be curious, learn new things, and ignite their own creativity.
As Mr. Parker outlined in the June Academy Policies, successful completion of June Academy in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades is a graduation requirement. Existing protocols regarding absences due to medical issues, bereavement, or other extraordinary/unforeseen circumstances will apply as necessary. Students with a “Fail” will have an opportunity to earn a “Pass” by doing an alternative project subject to approval of the June Academy Pass/Fail Committee.
Additionally, we want to acknowledge that life can sometimes get in the way. There may be some students who have previously committed to other engagements (i.e. summer programs) and may miss some time during June Academy. We ask ALL STUDENTS who are aware of any conflicts to come and see their guidance counselor. Check in with your counselor to receive a copy of the June Academy Alternative Project Application. Please note, the scope of the project you complete must be comparable to the total time missed from June Academy. For those of you who have already communicated with us, thank you for your advanced notice. Even those who have already spoken to Mr. Parker or their counselor must formally submit an application.
This is an exciting time for our school as we embark on an idea so new and different. We thank you for your continuous support of this community-wide endeavor. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact members of the high school guidance team.
Sincerely,
June Academy Pass/Fail Committee
