Weston Music Department News
Thirty-one Weston High school students were selected to participate in the Eastern Massachusetts Sr. District Music Festival. The program is offered by the Massachusetts Music Educators Association as an enrichment opportunity providing a musical experience to talented young people. The students auditioned and were selected to perform in the Senior District Concert Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra and Chorus. They will rehearse with guest conductors and then perform in a concert to be held at Boston Latin School in Boston, MA on Saturday, January 5, 2019.
The following students were selected for Orchestra: Senior Emily Kim (Violin); Juniors Haeun Lee and Ashley McCoy (Cello), Sanghoo Lee (viola), Carter Namkung (Bassoon), and Alexandra Carpenter, Yeeun Lee, Nathaniel Luu, and Joy Mahoney (Violin); Sophomores Wesley Kim (Cello) and Benjamin Chen (violin); and Freshmen William Houston (Cello) and Eunice Lee (Violin). Selected for the Chorus were Seniors Hannah Brown, Vincent Rougeau, Evan Rubin, Benjamin Sher, Gillian Reeder, and Declan Tellier; Juniors Lea Sarnblad and Kayla Silverman; and Sophomore Max Wohfield. Selected for Concert Band were Seniors Michael Aisin-Gioro (Baritone Saxophone), Albert Wu and Zachary Zhu (Clarinet), and Patrick Rhatigan (Tenor Saxophone); Juniors Andrew Yao (Clarinet), Austin Gu (Oboe), and Peter Diebold (Trumpet); Sophomore Bryant Zeng (Trumpet), and Freshman Jonathan Henry (Timpani).
Three Weston High School students were selected into the National Association for Music Education (NAFME) All-Eastern Honors Band and Orchestra. Selected for Orchestra were Juniors Joanne Lee (Violin) and Sanghoo Lee (Viola); selected for Band was Senior Michael Aisin-Gioro (Baritone Saxophone). These students will prepare challenging music that they will perform under the leadership of prominent conductors in this biennial event. They will spend three days in Pittsburgh rehearsing during the Eastern Division Conference of NAFME in preparation for performances on April 7, 2019
