WHS Has Two Qualifiers for the National Level of the US Chemistry Olympiad
For the first time in at least 15 years and possibly longer, we have qualifiers for the National level of the United States Chemistry Olympiad! The most that any school may qualify is two students, and we did qualify two students, both juniors at WHS:
Andrew Gumbert and Ezra Gordon
Andrew and Ezra are among the top 26 chemistry students in the New England region, and among the top 1000 chemistry students in the country, from around 17,000 students who begin the competition.
Their next step is the national competition in late April. The national competition is comprised of a multiple-choice examination, a written-answer examination, and a day of experiments in the laboratory to test technique and the derivation of new procedures. Those students who win at the national level may later represent the USA in the International Chemistry Olympiad, which takes place later in the summer.
Congratulations to Andrew and Ezra, and many thanks to our supportive district!
