Recap of Fall Athletic Season

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to send along a quick recap of our Fall 2022 Athletic Season. We had an incredible season and our student-athletes and coaches were amazing! Also, attached is an article that ranked the top athletic programs for the Fall (similar to the Spring rankings where Weston finished 2nd overall in the State of Massachusetts). This Fall we finished 3rd overall – very proud of everyone’s efforts to make this happen. Additionally, I would like to thank our unbelievable teachers who worked with our department and student-athletes on early dismissal, etc. Your support of our student-athletes does not go unnoticed.

Recap of Fall 2022:

~ Girls Cross Country captured the State Championship for the first time in school history. Alessandra Gavris won the D3 Individual State Championship. The team also brought home the DCL Foley Division Championship as well as the 3A Divisional Championship.

~ Golf took home their 8th team State Championship this past Fall. Led by Zach Pelzar who won both the Individual Sectional Championship and Individual State Championship (Zach shot a 68 at States…). The team like XC won the DCL Foley Division as well as the D3 North Sectional Championship.

~ Girls Volleyball finished the regular season ranked #5 and advanced through the State Tournament before falling to eventual State Champion Ipswich in the “Final Four”. Fielding Mayhugh was selected to the D3/D4 All-State team.

~ Boys Cross Country finished in a tie for 2nd at the State Meet, unfortunately having to accept 3rd overall due to a tiebreaker. The team did finish 1st at the D3A Divisionals which was a huge accomplishment.

~ Field Hockey brought their 9-7-2 record into their State Tournament first round game against Quabbin Regional (1.5 hrs. away from WHS). The 11th ranked Panthers were no match for Weston who took home a 3-1 win before falling by the same score to Newburyport in the quarter-finals.

~ Girls Soccer had a very successful season finishing ranked #7th overall after regular season play with an 8-5-5 record before falling in the first round of the State Tournament to Watertown.

~ Football captured the Post Road Gridiron Club trophy for the first time in 12 years after their 27-14 win over rival Wayland on Thanksgiving morning. The team finished the year at 7-3, their best record since 2010. Mack McManus broke the school record for touchdown passes as well as total passing yards.

~ Boys Soccer finished the season on a strong note taking home victories in their final two games against tournament teams.

~ Crew finish their season on a high note racing many boats in the world famous Head of the Charles followed by the New England Championships the following week. Many Weston rowers contributed to high finishes in both these races.

~ All JV teams had successful seasons and many of our JV student-athletes will be contributors on next year’s varsity teams.

~Many of our Fall athletic teams participated in various community service projects including Dig Pink (volleyball) which raised money for breast cancer awareness, 3 Clubs for Cancer Golf Tournament which raised money for Dana Farber, Kicks for Cancer (soccer), teams worked with Weston Youth organizations – coaching/helping with practices, etc.
