The Guidance & Counseling Department is committed to supporting and assisting our students navigate the high school years and acquire the tools and knowledge they need to make informed decisions, explore opportunities, and live successful and fulfilling lives. Professional and caring school counselors advocate, collaborate and facilitate individual and system change in order to empower students to embrace their potential and to achieve their personal and academic aspirations. Students are different from one another in their capabilities, aptitudes, interests, needs, goals and values. Our comprehensive and individualized approach encompasses personal/social, career/college and academic counseling.
We believe that:
- All students can develop the skills necessary for academic success, personal growth, positive interpersonal relationships, career development and healthy choices.
- All students have a right to equitable treatment and access to opportunities and supports.
- School counseling is integral to a school system’s efforts to enhance educational attainment for all students.
- School counselors must work to design and implement programs that contribute to student success.
We encourage students who wish to meet with the counselor individually to make an appointment in advance. On “Walk-In Wednesdays,” counselors try to keep their schedules as open as possible for student drop-in meetings. In situations requiring immediate attention, students should feel free to come in to see any available counselor. Parents are encouraged to use the guidance services, calling 781-786-5820 with questions or requesting a conference when appropriate.
Naviance is one of the most helpful online tools for Weston High School students. Guidance provides this tool to students for career and college exploration, access to documents needed for Career and Guidance Seminars, scholarships, and other useful information. Students create their own space in Naviance, allowing them to save colleges they are thinking about, create activity lists, and help assess where they fall in relation to other Weston students’ applications to specific colleges.
Counseling and counseling materials shall be free from bias and stereotypes on the basis of race, color, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, religion, disability, sexual orientation, national origin, ethnicity, ancestry, socioeconomic status or homelessness.
Weston High School’s CEEB Code is 222-355.
