The Music Program at the Middle School provides opportunities for participation in vocal and instrumental ensembles as well as general music classes in Grades 6, 7, and 8. The primary goals of the Program are to improve literacy and musicianship skills and to cultivate a life-long appreciation of music.
In addition mixed choruses in all three grades, students in Grades 7 and 8 may audition for the Madrigal Choir that offers more advanced musical and vocal opportunities.
Band is also offered in every grade, with the opportunity to audition for the Jazz Band. Participants must also play in the seventh or eighth grade band (or orchestra for string bassists).
Finally, there is a Sixth Grade String Orchestra and a combined Seventh and Eighth Grade String Orchestra.
The Program has grown dramatically over the past decade. Because of this, the ensembles and classes offered at the Middle School develop the students’ musical skills with increased rigor.
Private Lessons: All students are encouraged to take private lessons. To support them, the district has arranged for private teachers to teach on site after school. Registration for lessons occurs at the start of the year. Click here for private lesson registration.
