Important information regarding the start of school

Dear WMS Community,

There are not enough words to describe how excited we are to see our students tomorrow!  Yes, some will be in person and some will be virtual, but seeing their faces will make all of this work so worthwhile.

There is a lot of information in this document.  So, please read through it multiple times to maximize understanding.

First of all, at this writing, our student schedules are not ready for publication yet.  We will open the portal later this evening when they are ready.  That said, please be patient with us.  We have masterfully created student schedules for years, yet this year has been one of the most challenging for me for many reasons, cohort planning, synchronizing RLA and Hybrid models, shared faculty, parent requests, balanced class sizes in two platforms, and a myriad of other factors. Mr.Oates and our school counselors have emailed your child this afternoon letting them know where they will begin their day at school.   A reminder that we will only have Hybrid Cohort B students in the building tomorrow.   We have sent each student an email with their  Room # to go to upon arrival.  When students arrive they will be greeted by faculty and staff and when they enter the building they should follow these entrance protocols:

Grade 7 Entrance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJdKM8xwCqw&feature=youtu.be
Grade 8 Entrance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_JhSXdlFmc&feature=youtu.be

Our Hybrid Remote (Hybrid Cohort A and RLA Cohort A) students are going to be participating in virtual orientation.  The zooms have been organized by Student Last Name, and can be found here:

RLA Cohort B students will also have an orientation.  Their zoom links schedule can be found here:

Liz Heichelbech is the person to contact if your student is having difficulty getting into a Zoom link during the Remote Orientation. Her email is: heichelbeche@weston.org

We have slightly adjusted our arrival and dismissal protocols this year and I have included two maps for your reference to help us remain safe and seamless at both times of the day.  We anticipate a large number of students being driven to and from school, combined with our bus services, this will make for a busy morning and afternoon campus.  Please drive safely on our campus and follow these procedures.

Whether we are at home learning or in-person teaching models, there will no doubt be glitches and some new challenges.  We cannot anticipate all the newness that has yet to come as we are essentially providing three different platforms and running three different schools. We can assure you that we will pay extra close attention to the social emotional health and well being of both our children and our staff as we navigate school during this pandemic.

Please be patient with us and with your student as new routines are being created.  We know it will take a new level of energy and a whole lot of resilience, kindness and grit.

Sincerely,

WMS Grade Directors: Georgeann Bossers (6), Caryn Grozalsky (7), MIke Brown (8);  Phil Oates, Assistant Principal, and John Gibbons, Principal.
