Dear Parents,                                                                                                                                 April 10, 2018

It is time to spring into some new activities! An informational meeting for spring athletes will take place on Tuesday, March 20th at 3:00pm in the MS Cafeteria. Parents are encouraged to attend the meeting and spring team sports are going to begin on Monday, April 9th.

On Wednesdays, practices will begin right after school at 1:45pm and will conclude at 3:20pm in order for all student athletes to take the 3:30pm late bus home.  The Athletic Department will not be scheduling any home or away games on Wednesdays for the spring season unless a rained-out game has to be rescheduled, and you will be notified of such changes.

This procedure eliminates the former mandatory Wednesday study halls for team sports.  However, it should be noted that any student needing to meet with an academic teacher on a Wednesday afternoon may do so between 1:45-2:45pm, and then is expected to join his or her team for the remainder of the practice.

Please also note that there are no after school sports or other activities on a First Wednesday (May 2 and June 6), and all students are expected to go home at the 12:45pm dismissal.

Extra-Curricular FAQs

How are clubs, activities and sports scheduled at Weston Middle School?

Weston Middle School clubs tend to run throughout the school year without breaks as the seasons change. Drama productions, intramural sports and team sports change with the seasons creating transitional breaks lasting several weeks during November and February/March

What type of commitment is involved in participating in clubs, activities and intramural sports versus team sports and drama productions?

In general, students are welcome to come to clubs, activities and intramural sports as often as they choose. Team sports and drama productions, however, require mandatory attendance five afternoons per week.

Are interscholastic team sports available to all middle school students?

Not generally. Track is available to all grades but other team sports are open only to 7th and 8th graders. As much as possible, we try to avoid “cuts” by limiting participation to 7th and 8th graders who are able to commit to a team for the entire season.  When necessitated by facility space limitations and to maintain appropriate coach/athlete ratios “cuts” are made on teams in extreme cases

Why are there so many activities on Wednesdays?

The Wednesday afternoon activity period allows students to participate in activities and clubs even if they are involved in a drama production or team sports.

What is the late bus schedule?

Late buses are scheduled to leave the Middle School at 3:30 and 5:30 every day. This includes METCO Boston bus routes, except that there is no 3:30 METCO Boston bus on Fridays.
