June Letter from Principal Faber
Hello Families,
We have come to the end (almost) of another outstanding year!
If you remember at Back to School night, I mentioned
to “stay tuned” for all the amazing learning and community
experiences this year would bring us. We have much to
reflect and celebrate about! I am so proud of the incredible
work and growth of our students! This year, we continued
to build our community through our school spirit days,
family and community events. We opened our “Hatch”
where ideas are born and children are provided the
opportunity to challenge themselves through design
and engineering! We took on a whole school STEM
challenge to design the best egg helmet. As a faculty,
we learned with and from each other to improve upon
a teaching strategy of lesson closure.
It was a small change with great impact!
We continued to improve and audit our safety protocols.
We introduced BOKS where children are exercising their
bodies, before school, in preparation for the school day.
We sang together at the music concerts! We drank coffee
together at the many principal coffees where we chatted
about anxiety, safety, math and mindfulness!
We have been quite busy and all along you “stayed tuned”
to what was happening and important in the lives of your
children. I thank you for your dedication to the success
of the Woodland students, faculty and staff.
We have built our community together,
we have succeeded together, we have persevered
together and we have grown together.
Together is a wonderful place to be as is Woodland!
On behalf of the faculty and staff, thank you
for trusting your children with us.
Please know that we are honored to be
surrounded by your children on a daily basis.
Enjoy your summer!
Some events to highlight and ask your child about…
Grade 2 students were completely submersed in two days of
Henry David Thoreau and solely focused on
Henry David Thoreau inspired STEAM challenges.
Grade 1 students will take part in a design and engineering
challenge using the book, HELP! A Story of Friendship by
Holly Keller. Using the design and engineering process the
students will design a way for the mouse to get out of the deep hole.
Grade 3 students will celebrate the goals they have worked
toward all year. They have written reflections about their
accomplishments and identified future goals. Students
created individualized Goal Folders to include their
reflections, work samples, and a link to their digital
portfolios. Those folders will be shared with their peers and family!
