Weston Public Schools Food Service Department will continue our partnership with Land’s Sake Farm in the 2018-19 School Year! We will be purchasing a variety of fresh vegetables to use on our menus and in the Taste Test Day Program. We believe it is important for students to have access to a variety of vegetables and to present them using different cooking styles and seasonings. Sometimes we just eat them raw! September’s Taste Test is Thursday, September 27th and will feature vegetables fresh from the farm. For more information about ingredients served or if you would like to volunteer your time, please contact WPS Nutrition Analyst and Farm to School Coordinator Kelly Shaw.
The final taste test of the year was a huge success! We celebrated the arrival of warmer weather with Banana “Nice” Cream and Pineapple Frozen Yogurt! Students were able to try both flavors. Students at Woodland school favored Banana Nice Cream and were amazed to learn that it contained only frozen bananas. Many students also sampled Pineapple Frozen Yogurt made with plain yogurt. Both options were made without added sugar and would work well in homemade popsicle molds. The recipes come to us from the Chop Chop Kitchen, but can easily be customized to suit your taste. Thank you for encouraging your students to try new foods, we had a great year of adventurous eating. If you have any ideas for future taste tests or would like to volunteer next year, contact WPS Nutrition Analyst and Farm to School Coordinator Kelly Shaw.
