WS PTO Update

We are looking forward to seeing many of you this Tuesday 9/26 evening, at 4:30 – 6pm for our fall picnic with Woodland friends and families. Grab a picnic blanket, pack a picnic, and meet us on the Woodland School field. This will be a time for students to play outside of school and families to socialize with one another as we kick off the start of the school year together. Don’t forget any balls or outdoor activities your students may want to play. Kona Shaved Ice will be available for purchase. Please note this is not a drop-off event; you must supervise your own children.

Please consider running for our open seat to serve on the Woodland School Council. If you are interested, please send a candidate statement to Emily Malenfant by 4pm ET on September 29, 2023.

Our spirit store will be open for another 10 days – get your orders in!

Finally, we hope you’re as excited we are about WEEFC’s upcoming fall fundraiser! The auction is now open for bidding, and we wanted to draw your attention to several fun opportunities geared towards Woodland students:

You can participate in the silent auction even if you’re not attending the fundraiser by visiting the event website and clicking “sign-in” in the upper right-hand corner to register.

Interested in going in on a package with friends? Choose one person from your group to do the bidding. Once you’ve been declared the winning bidder, let a WEEFC representative know, and we will divide the cost amongst your group.

All proceeds from the event will go towards funding innovative programming that enhances the curriculum at all five Weston Public Schools.  WEEFC thanks you for your continued generosity!

SCHOOL COUNCIL OPENING

Woodland has 1 open seat for parent / guardian representatives for School Council. Each seat has a 2-year term.

This is an important and exciting opportunity for parents/guardians to get involved. Every public school in the state is required by law to have a School Council made up of various representatives, including elected parents / guardians. According to the Massachusetts Department of Education, school councils are to assist principals in adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards, identifying the educational needs of students attending the school, reviewing the annual school building budget, and formulating a school improvement plan.

School Council meetings are held on the first Monday of every month at 2:45pm.

If you are interested in running for School Council, please send a candidate statement to Emily Malenfant by 4 PM ET on September 29, 2023. School Council Elections will run from October 2nd to October 6th. There is no set format for candidate statements, but please consider including the following information:

  • ·  Your name
  • ·  Where your children are in school
  • ·  Other volunteer commitments
  • ·  Other work experience
  • ·  Other community involvements
  • ·  Why you are interested in School Council and what contribution you can make

SPIRIT STORE

The Woodland School Spirit Store is Now Open! The 2023 Fall Spirit Store is ready for business. The school store will remain open through early October. Get your gear in time for upcoming fall spirit days!

PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT 

Book your babysitters! Save the date to come gather with fellow Woodland parents at our upcoming adult only Parent Community Night Out – Wednesday, October 18th from 6-9pm at Lookout Farm in Natick. More details to come soon. Thank you to the Mofenson Family for hosting!

DISMISSAL NOTEPADS

The Dismissal Notepad Fundraiser is back!  Please click the link to order METCO Dismissal notepads.  Proceeds from this fundraiser benefit Weston METCO Family Friends. The deadline for ordering is October 20, 2022.  One order includes 4 (50 sheets per pad) notepads. For questions, please contact Nancy Fournier, fourniern@weston.org

PART-TIME WORK OPPORTUNITY

Field School principal, Dan Green, is reaching out to any parents (K-12) who might be interested in part-time work at one of the town’s elementary schools. Specifically, the schools are hoping to hire lunch/recess monitors between the hours of 11:15AM – 1:30PM every day during the school year.  These part-time positions are perfect for parents interested in connecting with and supporting students during less structured times. The position pays $16.33-$17.59 an hour.  Please notify Dan Green greend@weston.org if you are interested.
