Weston PTO President’s Message

Happy New Year!!! We are geared up to continue supporting our schools for the second half of the year.  Please join us for the many events we have planned!  It is always nice to connect during these colder, darker winter days.

We are building a reference FAQ (shown below) to answer the commonly asked questions we hear. Please let us know if you have any questions that we may not have answered.

If you haven’t yet, please join PTO today so we can continue to achieve goals for this year.  Membership is $50, and volunteering is NOT required (although we absolutely welcome volunteers!).  We are planning many more enrichment activities and events this school year and can’t do it without your support.  By simply joining, you will also be able to access our electronic directory, receive our weekly Westword newsletter and our printed directory/calendar is available for purchase.

I am available to talk anytime if you have questions or would like to learn more about our role in the Weston public school district.

Most appreciatively,

Leila Hooper, PTO President

Weston PTO FAQ

  • Why should I join the PTO?

The PTO Our annual budget is raised solely through membership dues. Every dollar of each membership purchased helps augment our children’s school experience and supports our educators in fulfilling their vision. We urge all families with children attending the Weston Public Schools to join as PTO members each school year.

  • I know that some communities don’t charge a fee to join their school’s PTO. Why does the Weston PTO charge $50?

Some communities offer a complimentary membership, but still need to supplement PTO activities through other means.  For example, in these communities, parents are asked to sell candy bars, wrapping paper, candles, or other items throughout the year.  The Weston PTO believes that offering an annual membership fee relieves parents of those time-consuming fundraising responsibilities. We also offer a fee waiver for families that request it.

  • What does it mean to join the PTO? Am I required to go to meetings or volunteer?

There is no obligation to volunteer or attend meetings.  One of the wonderful things about joining the PTO is that families decide how they wish to participate.  Some families choose to volunteer on the board, in the classroom, or at events, while others choose to simply purchase a membership.  We take great pride in the strength of our PTO and encourage you to learn more about our programs and get involved in any of the many volunteer opportunities that work with your interests and schedule.

  • What is the difference between the role of PTO vs. WEEFC?

WEEFC solicits donations and award enrichment grants for programming which falls outside of the annual school budget, as requested by administrators, teachers, and students, subject to School Committee approval.  PTO often provides volunteers to help source and execute the programming and WEEFC provides the curriculum based funding. In such cases, PTO and WEEFC work collaboratively. However, there are many WEEFC grants that do not involve PTO and there are several activities and events that PTO sponsors that do not require external funding from WEEFC.
